Hi there. My name is Carla Vincent. I am Willie Vincent's oldest son's oldest child. Willie sang and played guitar for the Dixie Ramblers.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I noticed is that you list the song on B-2182 as "Lalita"; I have a CD that my cousin Tony Trahan, Willie's oldest daughter's oldest son, managed to find after years of searching. The title is written as "Alida", not Lalita.
I've also got an album, recorded by the Dixie Ramblers, in 1934. The musicians on the album were Willie Vincent on guitar, bass and vocals; Jesse Duhon, guitar; Hector Stutes, fiddle; Hector Duhon, fiddle; and Larry LaLonde, vocals. The songs on the album were The Oswald Waltz, Alida, The Old Country Mill, Under The Moon, Put on Your Bonnet, Loveless Love, Sway Waltz and The Waltz You Saved For Me.
My grandfather didn't live long enough to meet any of his grandchildren, yet he left behind a lot of us who are musicians and who love Cajun music. He died when his oldest son, my father, was 13. From what I have been told about him, he lived to play his music. I get to be a part of him, my grandfather, every time I listen to him play.
