  1. Wow!
    I'm absolutely speechless .
    Really !
I'll be down right damned !
    What a pioneer !
    What Singer !
    What a Song Writer
    What a Poet !
    What a Story Teller !
    What a Musician !
    What a Man !
After almost 51 years on this planet , and being completely captivated by Music , and having the dream , and even the obcession of being a guitar player , first and foremost , a singer , and a Song Writer , being the frontman of a band , performing on a stage , any stage , I didn't give a shit about what stage , whos stage , where it was , how big , or how many people would be out in front of it , I just wanted to be on it . As far back as 3 and 4 years old I can remember , and have been told by older relatives that even at that young age I was seen with the vacuum cleaner cord in my hands , with the end up to my mouth like a microphone , standing in front of a mirror pretending to be Paul McCartney , John Lennon , Elvis , etc. etc.
My love , and obcession with Music , Rock n Roll Music , Rockabilly Music , the Guitar , was not only a desire and an obcession to learn to play , and sing , and perform , but an obcession , and deep curiosity to learn , to know , and to have inside of me , what those great guitar players , and singers , my heroes , my idols , had inside of them , inside their souls , and inside their hearts , that made them so great , and to me , as just a little 4 , 5 , & 6 year old boy , made them immortal , Gods if you will . My obcession with Music has gone far beyond just learning how to play , or just learning to play the tune , I wanted to know why , I wanted to know the person , those Guitar Gods , those singers , I wanted to know why they were , how they were , and who they were . I've spent a good 45 of the 51 years that I've been on this earth Studying Music , and the people that make it .
I'm embarrassed , and ashamed to admit that I , a self proclaimed Rock n Roll historian , had never heard of this great Man , this great Musician , Singer , and Song Writer , this Legend GENE O'QUIN , until this past Sunday afternoon when I was at the house of a good friend , sitting having a smoke , when this good friend , and fellow Musician , out of the blue , and as humble as he always is , asked me , " Matt , you ever heard of GENE O'QUIN ? " ,
    I replied , No Butch , I don't think I ever have ... who's GENE O'QUIN ?
    Butch replied ... " Well he's my DAD ! "
For the next couple of hours at my good friend Butch O'quin's house GENE O'QUIN'S oldest Son school'd me on his "Rock Star " legend and a California pioneer of " Rockabilly " DAD !

    Mother Goll Damned Fucker !!
If I don't get shrunk down to size again , from bein' the big bad guitar slinger that I let myself think I am sometimes !
    And by who ?
A quite humble man , a good friend , a Man that always puts himself out there to help his friends , a Man that has probably sacrificed , and given more , than what he's managed to keep , by doing exactly that ...... just being a friend , a Man of his word , the Oldest Son of a Rockabilly Pioneer ,
GENE O'QUIN ........his SON , and my FRIEND
    BUTCH O'QUIN .
